Haters Gon Hate

Do you ever just HATE something that everyone seems to like? Whether it’s unreasonable or you just don’t get it or you had a bad experience. People gush and gush about something and you just sit there like

awkward gif

I was thinking about this last night while talking with Eliesa. She is my best friend, yet she hates Mexican food, animated movies, Halloween… some of my favorite things! Whaaaa??? But I have those as well – weird regular, popular things that I just don’t like. I’m sure you do too.

beatles

The first and most offensive, according to the reactions of people around me on occasions when I’ve been dumb enough to say this… The Beatles. I know, I know. They altered the course of music and cultural history. I get it. I just don’t like listening to them. Their music is boring to me, and just too weird.

catcher

The Catcher in the Rye? Why do people like this? It’s an unstable crazy boy making a ton of poor decisions, using terrible language. Does this mean I’m not deep? I don’t get it? I don’t know I just hated it. I hate that this is used as an example of classic American literature.

the-fault-in-our-stars

While we’re doing books… The Fault in Our Stars. I read it 2 years ago, before the media hype mind you, and yeah, I cried. It was emotional. But I didn’t *like* it. Same goes for the movie. It was so unrealistic and overly written – like every sentence was inflated and quirk-ified. To me, the relationship is way more unhealthy and unattainable than Bella and Edward.

lana

Lana del Rey. She’s cooled off now, I guess, but EW. Everyone ranted and raved about her, but honestly the only song I liked was the Young and Beautiful version from The Great Gatsby movie. She just seems like the kind of girl who would be super mean to you all the time until she needed something or was alone and then pretends like you’re good buddies.

Happy-Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is my least favorite holiday. Obvs I love having the days off and pondering on how awesome my life is in gratitude, but I don’t like hardly any traditional foods/activities  Thanksgiving dinner. I literally only eat a few ounces of dark meat, several servings of mashed potatoes and, if I’m lucky and was able to bring my OWN dessert, a slice of an apple or berry pie since I hate pumpkin, banana and coconut pies. I don’t care all that much about football; I don’t do Black Friday. I’d be happier with cheeseburgers and fries and a Netflix marathon.

babies

You all know how averse I’ve been to babies my whole life. While other girls queued up to hold the Young Women leader’s babies, advertised babysitting or cooed over chubby babies at family parties I was more “…ya no thanks.” This is changing though, guys! Hopefully I’m completely repentant of this by February…

sandwiches

Sandwiches. Weird, right? I worked at a Gandolfo’s, which is good, and everyone likes a solid grilled cheese. But for the most part I’d rather have pretty much anything else other than a sandwich. It makes it tough when Ernie’s is The Beard’s absolute favorite meal.

bachelor

Saying I hate the Bachelor/Bachelorette makes me sound like a pretentious elitist, and maybe I am. IT’S JUST SO DUMB. And almost more than the show I hate all the tweets/blogs about it. There HAS to be something more uplifting, helpful, useful in literally ANY OTHER WAY than this garbage reality television with which to fill your time. I might feel different if it was like a group/girl thing that I did with friends every week, but even then I’d be like… “Why aren’t we watching a different, better show to discuss every week?

Are you disappointed in me? Please tell me I’m not the only one hatin on popular things.

But if you say you hate Harry Potter or Star Wars or The Office SO HELP ME

Haha I love this. I totally get the Beatles thing. I mean I like them… but I feel like you have to had grown up listening to them to LOVE them. Right? Also I love/hate the bachelor/ette. It’s so ridiculous and stupid, and that’s why I love watching it. It’s such great material to make fun! And I hate to tell you, but I despise Harry Potter.
    OH WAIT.

I love this post!! I borderline hate the BBC Sherlock. There, I said it. And I hate The Hobbit movies (LOVE the book, HATE the movies). I’m such a hater. So glad to see you hate things, too!

I don’t like the Bachelor either! I think it’s dumb. But an even dumber version is “I Wanna Marry Harry”. A bunch of girls are tricked into thinking a Prince Henry look-alike is the real deal and it’s basically Bachelor with a “prince”

Ummm yeah. As an owner of all the Beatles albums, having a poster of them above my bed, and owning two or three Beatles shirts currently… I am offended. I love Catcher in the Rye, but I don’t give a crap about sentimental Nicholas Sparks-ish books. Also, I WISH I didn’t like mashed potatoes or coconut pie.

I am, however, with you on the babies thing. And The Bachelor/Bachelorette. Awful idea in general.

  • […] This one killed it. I’ve been pretty public about my dislike for Thanksgiving. Well, maybe apathy is a better word. Usually I’m just like “meh” about it, but I […]
