Spring Fever

I have it so bad. I used to get it like CRAZY when I was teaching right around this time. If this was me 2 years ago I would have a countdown to Spring Break, a countdown to April General Conference and a countdown to the last day of school. Last year I had Reese and it was so warm and mild basically starting in February. I wasn’t as crazy because we really hadn’t had a winter.

But we have this year, haven’t we? Snow and cold and inversion and pollution and ice. And then there were just those few lovely days last week where the sun came out and the air cleared up and for a perfect 40 minutes I could smell spring. Unfortunately Utah is Utah and it lasted exactly 41 minutes and then it (kind of?) snowed again. I’ve been getting a little stir crazy.

And what do I do when I’m stir crazy? I list like you’ve never seen anyone list before. So Voila! Here’s my Spring Prep/To Do/Bucket List:

  • Buy Easter wear for me and Reese and The Beard. I found Reese’s dress and shoes (ESPADRILLES I AM DEAD) at Old Navy yesterday, so I think she’s covered. Lord Beer Me Strength to find a dress I like. Ok well of course I bought one at Old Navy yesterday too, but it’s like a safari olive greenish brown and I LOVE it but Easter needs something a little more pastel-y doesn’t it? I thought so.
  • Spring Cleaning! I have been following my cousin-in-law’s big sister (confusing?) on Instagram and she is just a BOSS at being a SAHM. Go follow her. I was inspired to make a weekly cleaning schedule, and I’m in the process of making my Spring Deep Cleaning list too. You guys. I even printed it out and I’ve been checking it off. I’ve finally found my motivation to clean regularly.
  • Pick a fresh pink or yellow for your nails! I’ve been rotating through a lot of moody darks for the last little bit. Time for some pastel love!
  • Eat some fruit! I had a pear last week for the first time in ages and I cannot wait until it’s RASPBERRY SEASON SNITCHES
  • Self-Tan! I posted yesterday about using St. Tropez Self-Tan Express and I’m really liking it. Pasty girls unite!
  • Schedule a warm getaway. The Beard and his boys are headed to Disneyland for the Leap Day extravaganza, so me and my SIL are gonna take the babes to St. George for a little sun and relaxation. Even if it’s not quite warm enough to swim it will feel great to just be somewhere over 50 degrees, right?
  • Rotate your winter clothes & makeup – I’m probably gonna wait just a few more weeks to do this, as I’m still wearing my sweaters most days. I am taking this week to go through my closet thoroughly and ask “will I even realize this is missing when I pull out my winter clothes next year?” and if the answer is “Nope!” then I’m donating it. I’m also doing a lot of window shopping, since I’m not really sure what I’ll think about my warm clothes. They’re all from when I was just a couple of months postpartum or from before I was pregnant, so probably a lot of them won’t work. Don’t forget about your summer-y makeup – I stash away my bronzing gel, coral shades, and darker foundation for once I’m tan again! Wine red lipstick I’ll see ya next fall.
  • Up your workouts!!! Are you terrified to be in a swimsuit this summer? Join the club. After a little timeout of health stuff I’m trying hard to get back on the fitness wagon. I’ll be trying out a new diet (Fast Metabolism – has anyone done this?) and adding a session of core work to my weekly workout schedule. I’m also hoping to start taking walks with Reese a few times a week, weather permitting! Maybe we can start up the stroller mom gang again??
  • Pick up a new, happy habit. I love the feeling of fresh renewal in the spring. General Conference is one of my favorite parts because it always encourages me to make big changes and be better. I’m also reading Better Than Before right now and really, REALLY enjoying it. One habit I am working on right now is waking up, every day, at a reasonable time. Often I don’t have anything time-sensitive so I’ll sleep in and lay in bed for a while until Reese wakes up. Instead I should be using that time while she’s asleep to get some of my stuff done!

Here’s to hoping I get some fresh air and sunshine this weekend and that it tides me over until we have full-blown spring!
