Tired Mom Makeup

tired makeup tutorial

Reese is 15 months old, so you’d think that I’d have figured out tired mom makeup by now. But this last month has really given me the education that I never knew I needed on being a tired mom. I guess you expect to be tired with a newborn. What you *don’t* expect is for your one year old champion sleeper/napper to get sick twice, for you to get sick, to have to cancel two different trips and to suddenly start cutting all the teeth that never showed up her first year of life. Life is still amazing, and Reese is just the coolest. We are totally fine and grateful and happy. I just looked super ugly all month.

I tweeted a joke about needing a makeup tutorial that isn’t about looking beautiful – just looking like you weren’t up all night with a newborn. Turns out I’m not the only one who can relate to that sentiment… and thus the idea was born. My word of 2016 is Queen, and I’ve been trying to live up to it. A queen looks her best, and will diplomatically power through her tired days with no excuses. I’m still working on that part, obviously.

These are my top 3 tips for being a tired mom, trying to look less zombified:

  1. Hot shower. That alone will make you look more awake, alive, and fresh. Just helps me mentally too, ya know?
  2. Illuminate, illuminate, illuminate. Find a highlighter/illuminator you like and cling to it like the Iron Rod. I’m sorry that was sacrilegious. Cling to the Iron Rod FIRST, then illuminate.
  3. Remember that you’re beautiful and a good mom and your appearance really doesn’t matter.

And for more tips, my faves, and to see how washed out and gross I look without makeup go ahead and watch this (products linked below, not sponsored – these are all me!):
