June 2018 GBOMB

I had big, high hopes for June. My medication was working, the weather was amazing, we had some big and awesome changes in our work lives… June was gonna be SO PRODUCTIVE SO AMAZING SO LIFE CHANGING!!!!! Well obviously the old Danica is back because she loved to idealize the future lol. It was a great month. I loved it. It was also fast and weird and so hot that I’m kind of over summer? Hopefully I can catch summer fever for a second round.

Good

  • We swam SO MUCH. Too much probably. But it has been so fun to swim with friends and wear the kids out at splash pads all month long. One day we hit two (2) splash pads in one day. Then I had to sleep for 72 hours to recover.
  • Ryan got a big promotion! He’s now the VP of Student Outcomes at Lambda School and it’s been very exciting. He’s never loved a job this much and suddenly he’s a workaholic???? It’s weird and awesome. Plus he has to go on business trips a bunch now which means I get to eat popcorn in bed!!!!!!
  • Parties! We celebrated several birthdays of friends and family. Great dinners, fun parties, Reese singing Happy Birthday at the top of her lungs. It was great.
  • Softball is over!!!! It’s fun to go support Ryan and hilarious to see all the kids running around the fields. But it is also so much work and so hot and I’m just v excited that it’s done.
  • I read some great books this month. There’s no reading like summer reading.
  • Loney has started giving big, messy, puckered kisses and I love it so much
  • I tackled some major house projects and it feels SO GOOD.
  • YOGA. I seriously feel so great. I wanted to start incorporating weights back into my fitness routine and only went twice but I’m not even mad because I was pretty consistent with yoga and just feel awesome.
  • Reese has formed a little neighborhood gang this month and they are just wild. They ride scooters and eat goldfish and run from house to house. At least once a day I have to drop into the mom chat to say “Hey if Reese is at your house can you send her home?” She’s 3.

Bad

  • Was mercury in retrograde or whatever because both of my girls were off the wall for basically the second half of the month. Cranky, random physical symptoms of stuff, their sleep got all screwed up, they were sensitive, wild, and just generally a handful.
  • I also had weird physical stuff like for some reason my tongue kept swelling??? I still don’t know why and the only thing that helped was Benadryl but then I would have to take 3 hour naps. It was a mess.
  • I fell off my “wake up before the girls” wagon. The good news is that I’m so sick of my hectic and grumpy mornings now that I’m ready to get back on!
  • I had big plans for my neighborhood and they didn’t happen. I’m glad I didn’t try to force it, like old Danica would, but I’m still hopeful I can make it happen.

On My Brain

  • In honor of Pride Month I’ve been thinking a lot about my brother’s coming out last year. He wrote an incredible post that people still bring up to me all the time. Another brilliant friend wrote a post all about queer Mormons & Pride. I feel like I have learned and grown so much in the past year directly from embracing the LGBTQ+ community and I feel so grateful.
  • I still have not stopped screaming “YASSSSSSS” to this post about MLMs. I know I’m beating a decomposing horse here but it’s something I feel so passionately about and this post did all the math and homework. I loved it.
  • Do I have what it takes to keep a rose bush alive?
  • I’m starting to dabble in the intuitive eating/flexible eating/anti-diet culture movement and it is all just resonating so hard with me. I had plans to get to the book this month and didn’t, but it’s a priority for July. This post was beautiful and heartbreaking in the way it shows the very harmful effects of diet culture and consumerism designed to make us feel awesome about ourselves.
  • Routines. I’m halfway through Jordan Page’s Productivity Boot Camp and I’m liking it a lot, even if its a lot of stuff my control freak planner brain has been doing. I’m really considering my home, my family, my daily schedule and trying to figure out what’s gonna work for us. Maybe a little bit of daily cleaning ~isn’t for me, Pinterest!!!! Anyway if you have a life-changing way of organizing your daily SAHM life I am all ears.

Part of me wants to spend all of July inside, if I’m being honest. How am I suddenly such a baby about the heat and swimming? It wipes me out now! Apparently I’m 90 years old!!! But July is also our anniversary month and we have a super fun kidless trip planned (including Phantom of the Opera!!!!!! Ah!!!!!).
