Who Run Da World

girlsI saw this on Pinterest and really liked it. Sure you can say “JUST BE YOURSELF DON’T TRY TO LIVE UP TO THE WORLD’S UNREASONABLE EXPECTATIONS THOSE ARE RIDICULOUS ROLE MODELS.” But I don’t buy it. If you let your life be dominated by impossible goals and trying to be something you’re not then emulating a fictional character is the least of your problems. Let these impossible or unreasonable people be an inspiration, not a pinpointed target you must become!

I especially like this because it reflects how multi-dimensional we can be as women. I don’t think there’s one woman I want to be. I want to have characteristics of so many different women, just like this tumblr post. I got thinking about the women who inspire me – the combination of elements I love to be my best self.

The Six Women I Want to Be Like

blairThe Style of Blair Waldorf – because she has the best taste. She mixes trendy and classic. She always looks put together and, surprisingly, pretty modest all things considered.

emma

The Comedy/Confidence of Emma Stone – because she’s just that girl you know you’d have a great time with, right? She is funny off and on camera and you know she went through an awkward phase so she gets life.

claire

The Poise of Claire Underwood – have you SEEN her? No one is more calm, cool and collected. She knows just what to say, AND how to say it. I wouldn’t say no to her closet of signature shift dresses either, I guess.

The Energy of Naomi Davis – her blog is such an inspiration to so many people. She just always seems happy, but is honest and shares when she isn’t. I love that she motors around the city with her 3 kids, always playing pretend ice cream truck, firefighters, zoo, everything. Her life is so colorful and it’s because she wants it to be that way.

molly

The Mom Skillz of Mrs. Molly Weasley – Reese was almost named Molly. I was listening to Deathly Hallows in the last months of my commute, pregnant with Reese, and during the Battle of Hogwarts I was reflecting on the Weasley family. The books wouldn’t be the same without them, and honestly, the battle would have been lost. Seven strong, amazing, courageous, GOOD children fighting for what is right? And THEN SHE KILLS BELLATRIX which is no easy feat, mind you. I was openly sobbing. She raised seven amazing kids. She kills it in the kitchen. She’s feisty and strong and talented. She’s the mother Harry didn’t have. If I could be half the mother she is – we’d be good.

leslie

The Friendship of Leslie Knope – because she is the fiercest friend and most loyal companion you could ever ask for. Thoughtful to a fault, intense and loving. Even if I kind of drive you crazy I want to be that friend for you.

May I one day find the balance of these amazing ladies and their best qualities to become SUPER DANICA.
