Baseball is here! It’s Opening Day and the Holdaway Family is so excited!

Of course Reese scored some new duds for this baseball season. Her dad scored this great onesie from Amazon, these CORDUROY RED BLOOMERS were clearance rack Gap, and the baseball saddle shoes were TJ Maxx.

My amazing next door neighbor MADE Reese this headband for her birthday! Complete with a Red Sox elastic. She’s the best. 

Let the record show that The Beard even requested that we take these photos yesterday in preparation so he could have a good picture to post tomorrow morning. Being an instagram/blogger husband is wearing off on him. Unheard of.

He loves Opening Day and we do a barbecue every single year. Last year he was so excited to celebrate Reese’s first opening day and took the following picture, which was his lock screen for MONTHS.

I’m glad they let me join in on the fun this year, too. 🙂

Baseball has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember! I grew up watching the Chicago Cubs with my dad; Me, Brooke, and Mitch all played softball/baseball/teeball, and my dad still breaks in gloves and mitts for interested parties around south Utah County.

Baseball is the reason The Beard and I hit it off (right off the bat) (it was a home run) (I’ll stop with the baseball metaphors now) (maybe) when we first met. A mutual friend wanted Ryan to introduce us to a cute musician he knew, so we went up to talk to him. He was wearing a Red Sox hat – which is no surprise if you’ve ever met him – and I remember distinctly thinking “this guy is trouble but I really want to talk to him.” LOL. I asked him about the Red Sox and then we were talking about the Chicago Cubs and then next thing I knew here we are almost 5 years later married with a baby.

What are the odds that we both grew up with dads who loved the Chicago Cubs in homes where WGN was on all summer long? About as good as the odds of a bossy rule-follower marrying a rebellious contrarian. I even had to boss him into our engagement photoshoot by making it baseball themed. Same with our pregnancy announcement.

Yeah she already ripped out one of the fake laces. Eye roll emoji. 

Fun Fact: Two years ago in March we were on vacation with our best friends the Findeis’ and found these baby baseball shoes while shopping. We had been talking a little since that Christmas about it maybe being time to have a kid. At the time we hadn’t made any concrete decisions –  well actually I had even had an appointment a few weeks before to get my Nexplanon (birth control implant) taken out but I’d called to cancel with cold feet. I was so scared! I wasn’t ready for kids! I’m so selfish and vain and love to sleep! But we bought those baby shoes anyway. I hid them carefully at the top of the guest closet under a pile of unused throw pillows like they were illegal drugs I never wanted discovered. A few weeks later I got the Nexplanon removed. And a year later we had a little baby to dress up for Opening Day. She didn’t fit in those shoes that year, but she does now. It makes me smile every time I look at them.

I’m so excited for years of Opening Days to come, and maybe even being that obnoxious loud mom on the bleachers yelling at the umpire. PLAY BALL.
