Books I Read: November 2018

Quick and dirty, without all the bells and whistles. Here’s my November books and thoughts. Great books, and almost all I wish I could personally purchase and hand to you with a kiss on the cheek!

Intuitive Eating

This is the total guide to fixing your messed up relationship with food and your body. No more dieting, no more good/bad foods, no more “last meals” or “cheat days” or forbidden carbs. Imagine letting go of all the anxiety and wasted energy you’ve given to your weight and diet and workouts. From start to finish, with mountains of research, these women guide you through the steps of intuitive eating and falling back in love with food again.

I recommend this to everyone. I haven’t been able to stop talking about it. If you’re sick of dieting or you have a really screwed up, abusive relationship with food GO BUY THIS NOW. And I recommend that you buy it and go through it slowly, flagging and highlighting. Take your time, study it, and really buy in. It can change your life!

We Should All Be Feminists

Chimamanda Ngozi Achidie wrote this simple, short, straight forward definition of feminism and how it positively impacts everyone and everything. She tackles intersectional feminism and how it plays into racism, classism, and other modern factors.

Much like Dear Ijeawele this is fast and essential. I liked Dear Ijeawele better but this is also very good and takes much more time to address what feminism means for men and boys. This is a great read for the men in your life that would like to better understand feminism (and not be afraid of it lol).

The Financial Diet

Based on the successful blog, this book is the “total beginner’s guide to getting good with money.” Catered toward millennials and with absolutely beautiful design, it’s very easy to read and has a ton of very helpful, immediately applicable advice.

The expert interview sections were enlightening. I really appreciated that they explain Roth IRA and 401K and all those other terms you’ve heard but don’t fully understand – in a non-condescending way. I really liked the idea of talking about money ~more and making it less scary and less of a pride issue. This is a fantastic read, quick and helpful.

Wundersmith: The Calling of Morrigan Crow

Second in the series, this installment begins Morrigan’s journey as a member of the illustrious Wundrous Society, but things are definitely not more simple now that she’s in. It seems no one wants her there, her powers are starting to emerge in confusing and dangerous ways, and what is going on with all these scary disappearances?

HOW DID I LIKE THIS EVEN MORE THAN THE FIRST?!!!! Idk, but I did. These books are just so much fun. I teared up reading this. I got scared! I LOLed. There is some really great character development in this one, of people you know and also fun new people to fall in love with (or hate). Just do yourself a favor and read this. And buy it for someone for Christmas – they’ll love it.

The Child Whisperer

Honestly I made a pretty long review video in my Instagram Highlights under “Nonfiction,” so go watch if you’re interested. Basically it’s interesting and some of it is helpful – especially the idea of removing ourselves from projecting on our child and allowing them to grow for themselves. But none of it is science. There is literally no science. She just references herself lol. And she thinks she can classify your type by your face shape so… Idk guys. I just dk.

For December I am reading Lincoln’s Last Trial, Lethal White, Self-Compassion, Merry and Bright (cheesy holiday romance! Never tried that before!) and kicking off my HP reread year with Sorcerer’s Stone!!!! Woooooo!!!! Nothin better than cozy reading with fluffy snow falling outside. <3
