My Latest Podcast Recommendations

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw me post about my latest binge (Something Was Wrong) incessantly last weekend. I cleared the whole first season in under 48 hours. I tackled like 5 different projects around my house because I just didn’t want to take my airpods out or stop listening lol.

There’s nothing like a good podcast. You just can’t wait to listen more. You look for more ways to listen. You actually DO CARDIO, for crying out loud, because it means you can squeeze in another episode. Cleaning toilets doesn’t sound so bad when you are certain this next episode will give you answers… or maybe just more drama!!! Only one way to find out.

I need to do a better job of tracking my podcasts – maybe in a highlight on my insta stories – but since this is on my mind right now I thought I’d share some of my favorites lately. True Crime is my main course, but I like to throw in some spiritual and self-improvement ones too.

Latest Favorite Podcasts

True Crime (ish)

  • Something Was Wrong – covers the real stories of sociopaths and narcissists as told by the people impacted and victimized by them. It’s one story per season, and totally bingeable. This is a great one if you liked Dirty John, or you like crazy drama without the murder.
  • Invisible Choir – this true crime podcast is INTENSE. They only cover really heinous crimes and they dive deep. They use a lot of audio recordings, like the actual 911 calls and sound bites from court proceedings. If you struggle with crimes against children or particularly tough crimes this may not be for you.
  • Cold – I don’t need to say much about this, do I? Every Utahn/Mormon has heard of the Susan Powell case and probably tried this podcast. It’s so good. Get ready for your skin to crawl.
  • The Clearing – A woman puts together that her dad was a FREAKING SERIAL KILLER and tries to help solve unsolved murders that he may have been responsible for… nuts.
  • Detective Trapp – very cool podcast focused on a homicide detective in Anaheim who ends up catching a serial killer(s). Very short and bingeable.
  • Bear Brook – The science in this true crime podcast was fascinating. They found four bodies in two barrels in Bear Brook State Park and the case was cold for, like, forever. They use some cool science and investigation that changed the crime investigation game forever.
  • Broken Harts – woof. Remember the white moms who drove their black adopted children off a cliff? Ya. There’s a LOT more to that story.
  • Radio Rental – Rainn Wilson and Payne Lindsay??? Crazy mashup but it’s entertaining. People send in their weirdest stories, from paranormal to creepy to funny to scary.
  • The Thing About Pam – corny and very dramatized, but a great crazy story about a woman who thought she knew her best friend but Pam is not who she says she is.
  • Crime Junkie – I finally dove in! This one is great for binging. Sometimes annoying but consistent quality episodes. Every episode is a new case so you can just jump around and see what looks interesting.
  • CounterClock – There’s only two episodes so far, but it’s the Crime Junkie girls so I’m hopeful it’s good. It’s about one unsolved cold case – arson and murder.
  • Morbid – I think I’ve mentioned this plenty, but I LOVE Morbid. Different cases each episodes and the girls are so funny. Definitely a language warning but it’s awesome.
  • Criminal – I lobe yoy long tim. This is one of the original podcasts I got super into and even though I don’t listen to every single one, it’s a tried-and-true fave that always has interesting stories.
  • Culpable – I fell off the wagon with this one, but the first half of the season really had me hooked. It’s the story of a suicide that might have actually been a murder.

Non-True Crime

  • Office Ladies – I literally left a comment on their instagram to complain that Jenna was mean and condescending to Angela, but other than that I love it. They go over one episode of the Office per week and share behind-the-scenes stories that I can’t get enough of. I just wish they’d talk about Steve more and tell more stories from the set.
  • Live Free Creative – This is my go to motivation podcast. Miranda Anderson is an author and goal guru, so she shares ways to live more productive, freer lives. I kind of skip around based on what I need/feel for the day.
  • The Scripture Study Project – a weekly Come Follow Me podcast that just adds a short and sweet extra layer to my scripture study.
  • Come Follow Me: A Disciple’s Journey – this is my friend and former boss Jarrett! He shares his perspective on the week’s Come Follow Me as well as interviews with other individuals.
  • All In – another LDS podcast that interviews different people from all walks of life about their perspective and commitment to the gospel. I only listen to the ones that interest me, but they’re always inspiring.
  • Listen Learn & Love – yet another LDS podcast, but one that spends a lot of time focusing on the people on the fringes or underrepresented in the church dialogue.

I have a short list of podcasts that have been recommended to me that I’m keeping on the bench for the next time I need something new, so please let me know if you have a good one I haven’t mentioned that you think I’d love!

And if you listen to any of these I want to know what you think!

There’s two HP ones that I think you’d like! First one is Harry Potter and the Sacred Text. It’s a girl and a guy who treat HP as a sacred text, going chapter by chapter with a theme in mind and looking for hidden gems. I have only listened to a couple but it’s really really interesting!

The other one is Bingemode. Again, another guy and girl but this one they go chapters at a time and they also talk about the movies. This one is more light hearted and there is language but I have stood at the gym doing hamstring curls trying to hold back tears as they talked about Dumbledore’s death so there ya go. I’m finishing up this one and then officially moving on to Sacred Text!

Yes! I love HP and the Sacred Text! I tried Bingemode because so many people told me about it but it annoyed me for some reason? Maybe I need to give it another try

I’ve listen to most of these, but I’m going to have to try Radio Rental. Rainn Wilson and Payne Lindsay is such an intriguing duo.
