My Favorite 2019 Reads

60 books!!! I read 60 books!!! Wild. That’s a personal record for me. I don’t think I’m going to set the bar quite so high for next year, but I am really happy with how much I was able to read in 2019.

I always share reviews on my Instagram Stories and add the books to my highlights, but those can be a LOT to sift through if you’re looking for something to read. Following along on Goodreads is the best way to keep up with what I’m reading, what I’ve read, what I thought of those books, and what I want to read next.

In no particular order, here are the books I read and loved this year:

My Favorite 2019 Reads

  • OBVS my re-read of the Harry Potter series was just so great
  • Cozy Minimalist Home: More Style, Less Stuff – completely changed the way I think about my style and how I decorate my home.
  • The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work – such a useful and refreshing take on improving your relationship
  • Scythe & Thunderhead – this book ignited my thirst and I spent the rest of the year reading and waiting for the sequels!
  • Little Fires Everywhere – the perfect book club book with complex characters, ethical and emotional dilemmas, humor, and heartbreak
  • The Read-Aloud Family: Making Meaningful and Lasting Connections with Your Kids – changed the way I read with my girls and how I’ll use books in my home for parenting, religion, and more.
  • How to Be a Happier Parent – probably my favorite parenting book, even if I couldn’t apply it all yet.
  • Stiff – the most unique and interesting book!
  • Fair Play – I’m still processing this one, but I think it’s one that will affect my life for the entire future so it must make the list.
  • The Hating Game – shameless, spicy romance that I’m embarrassed to love but I literally read it twice this year lmao.

On the docket for the rest of the year are

  • Radical Candor (almost done)
  • The Toll (my copy is STILL on backorder wtf)
  • Little Women (!!! never read!)
  • Bread & Wine
  • Make it Happen
  • LOTR: The Two Towers
  • Conviction

My 2020 book resolution is most likely going to be 36, 3 per month is perfect for me. I’m going to follow fewer book clubs – there are a few online book clubs/book lists I try to follow along with, but I found this year it added stress and kept me from being able to read things I really wanted. In 2020 I want more flexibility over what I’m reading and the ability to pick up random books at the library or when I see someone else post about them and not feel like “hooo boy I gotta hustle if I want to fit this into this month’s books!!!”

As always I’m just so grateful for reading, good books, public libraries, and
